Apparently Google gathers so much information from their search data that they can tell you up to two weeks ahead of time when you might be at risk for getting the flu bug. According to this article in the New York Times, Google’s philanthropic unit, Google.org has a new page that shows by state the searches for flu symptoms. With this data they say that they have been able to predict where the flu is moving to ahead of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) in Atlanta, Georgia.
To use the Google early warning of influenza outbreaks your area check Google.org/flutrends. This would be a good page to bookmark and check regularly. You will also find a search form to find a location to get this year’s flu shot if you want.
